Where to Put Your Website Link to Get More Clients

APPLE PODCASTS  | SPOTIFY  | YOUTUBE

When someone signs on to work with me, one of the first things I do is competitor research. I ask clients to send me a list of people whose they admire (plus a few they can't stand), and then I go digging through About pages, bios, and social profiles.

Sometimes, I get a list of personal names and have to start searching. The other half, I get business names and just hope that I can also find the person behind the business. And when the person's name and the business name never link to each other online, I hit a dead end.

You're probably not doing competitor research on yourself. But somebody out there is telling a friend, "You have to check out [your name]," and that friend is typing you into Instagram, Google, or ChatGPT. If your name and your business don't lead to each other, you might be losing out on business before people ever find your website – and of course the phenomenal copy on it that tells people how you solve their problems!

So let's talk about where to put your website link, your sales page link, and your freebies so every path leads back to you.

Where to Put Your Website Link to Get More Clients

Why you should share your link more places

People who follow you on one platform, like Instagram, only see you when they're logged into that platform… and even then, they only see you when the algorithm decides they see you.

Every link you add on each platform is another way for people to find the rest of you: your website, your offers, your podcast, your email list.

And the more each of your platforms link together, the more complete the picture someone gets of you before they decide to buy. Transparency sells, and when your online presence communicates with itself, it makes you seem straightforward to work with, too!

Why your Link In Bio should live on your website

On every bio you have, you should be linking straight to your website. This may be to your homepage, or to a link in bio page that collects your most important links.

Pro-tip: if your link in bio page lives on a third-party platform, you're doing yourself a disservice. Build it as a page on your own website instead.

Mine lives at nomadcopyagency.com/links. It looks ugly on desktop and great on mobile, which is fine, considering most people click it from my social bios. And because it's on my site, anyone who lands there can wander into the rest of my website easy peasy!

Where to put your website link beyond social bios

  • LinkedIn: Add it to your bio, your About section, and your employer listing. If you own your business, connect your company page to your domain.

  • Email signature: Every regular email you send becomes exposure. You can also add your podcast, case studies, or freebie here.

  • Google Business profile: Google is still the queen of SEO. Open a profile if you don't have one and link your homepage.

  • Facebook business page: Add your personal name and your business name, plus your website. I travel constantly, and I can't tell you how many Facebook business pages I've landed on with no website, no address, and no hours.

Where to put your sales page link during a launch

During an active promotion, swap the link in your bio from your website to your sales page. If that's the only thing you're talking about on social media, make it the only place people can go. Then set a calendar reminder to switch everything back when the promo ends.

A few more launch moves:

  • Make one post on every platform pointing to your sales page, even the platforms you're not actively promoting on. Someone will go rogue and end up somewhere that you’re not actively promoting - give them a chance of still clicking over to your sales page!

  • Put the link right in your LinkedIn posts, since LinkedIn formats links nicely.

  • On Threads and Facebook, add your sales page as the top comment. I've heard (but can't confirm) that Meta platforms favor links in comments over links in the post.

Let your offers sell your other offers

If someone downloads your freebie and doesn't see a link to your paid offer until the third email in a welcome sequence, you're leaving money on the table. Put the upsell on your thank you page and in every email in that sequence.

Additionally, your digital products should be selling for you between launches. Templates, courses, PDFs, and freebies all need links to your sales pages inside them. Why? Because people are most likely to buy from Costco when they're already inside Costco. Your business works the same way. People are more likely to buy from you when they already are benefitting from your business.

Lead magnet promotion: put your freebies everywhere

When I land on your profile, whether I'm researching or thinking about hiring you, I want to click on all of your offers. Here's where your freebie links belong:

  • Presentations: Add a QR code to every talk, live or virtual. Your audience is on their phones anyway, so they might as well be distracted by you. Drop clickable links in the comments and on recordings, too, because some people will never figure out a QR code.

  • A pinned post: I pin one of my lead magnets to the top of my Threads profile, and my bio points down to it. It brings in about five to ten passive opt-ins a week.

  • Your link in bio page: Include your website, your sales page, and your freebies.

  • YouTube: Add links over your videos and in every description so your subscribers can join your email list.

Your 10-minute first step

Your link in bio is the same link on every platform, so start by creating it.

Then, make sure a clickable website link is in every bio you have. That's a 10-minute task.

Step two: create a few posts that link to each other (LinkedIn post to your website, your website has your social links, etc), and add your social links to your links page. That gives people a spider web of ways to find you, buy from you, and grab your freebies.

These are all examples of microcopy, which I covered in my episode on the different kinds of copywriting. A few words can get you massive and passive clicks.

FAQ/Recap:

What should go on a link in bio page?

Your website, your current sales page, your freebies and lead magnets, and links to your other social platforms.

Should my link in bio page be on my own website?

Yes. Hosting it on your domain keeps visitors on your site and gives them an easy path to everything else you offer.

Where should I put my sales page link during a launch?

In your bio, in one post on every platform, and as the top comment on Threads and Facebook posts. Set a reminder to switch your bio back after the launch.

Do I need to be on every social platform?

No. Pick a few places to promote and stick with them. Just make sure every profile you already have links back to you.
